Julie Piltsis, MD, PhD
Professor, Albany Medical College
Julie G. Pilitsis MD, PhD is a professor of neurosurgery and of neuroscience at Albany Medical College and Director for the Center of Neuroscience and Neuropharmacology. She completed her neurosurgery residency at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. During that time, she also obtained a PhD in neurophysiology and became active in both basic science and translational research. She went on to complete a fellowship in Functional Neurosurgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL, focusing in the neurosurgical treatment of movement disorders. She returned to her alma mater Albany Medical College in 2011, joining the division of neurosurgery as an associate professor of neurosurgery and in the Center for Neuropharmacology and Neurosurgery. She is well published and NIH funded in the arena of functional neurosurgery. She is the current immediate past Chair of the Joint Section on Pain of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS)/Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and an Executive Council Member of the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. She has served as an ex-oficio member of the NANS Board of Directors during which time she was the first chair of the Women in Neuromodulation Section. She is passionate about neuromodulation and sponsoring junior faculty in this arena.
